- 10 Favorite Hip – Hop/ Reggae Albums and one or two sentences as comment for each album!
Eric b. & Rakim - Paid in Full
Think of first heard “don't sweat the technique” on a NBA VHS highlights video. For me Rakim is the king. This is where hip hop still feels raw and honest reflection of the streets. The Beats and Rhyme flow and content still feel contemporary.
Wu Tang Clan - Enter the 36th Chamber
When my friend first told me there were some Ninja rappers from New York, we both went and bought the records from our local shop and although I’d listened to some hip hop, I’d never heard anything like that before. The beats, the concept and the MC’s - this really was the album that made me into a hip hop fan for life.
Mobb Deep - The Infamous
This album was like a dark documentary getting you right into the middle of Queensbridge New York. The production on the Beats and the incredible flow and lyric content of both Prodigy and Havoc is for me one of the best examples of east Coast hip-hop.
Cypress Hill - Black Sunday
The album that made me want to smoke weed lol! But more than that this production on this album is Perfectio. DJ Mugs really brings such a dark heavy cinematic element to the quality lyrics and flows.
ODB- Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version
Would have been so easy for me to do a top 10 hip hop album just from Wu-Tang members, very hard to pick one but I have to say the odb's debut is the most original and personal album. one of my all-time favorite MCs.
Dr Dre - The Chronic
I was young and my best mate listened to this over and over again. When I listen back to it now I can see the pure perfection and music production that Dr Dre brings to this album, Snoop Dogg's first appearance! A true masterpiece of Hip-Hop.
Skinny Man - Council estate of Mind
This hard to find album is one of the best hip hop albums of all time and not only that it came from the UK it blew my mind at the time that something from the UK could be so professional in its stories telling and production. Also I was super honored when I had the chance to DJ for Skinny Man performing this album live at our event AFT Raps in Bristol
Gang Starr - Moment of Truth
DJ Premier is easily one of my favorite hip hop producers and Guru the perfect compliment. Its hard to pick one of the Albums but I had the double vinyl of this and there's so many Classics on it “Above the clouds' ' has been one of my favorite tracks of all time especially the Inspector Deck verse.
Dilated Peoples - The Platform
As Hip Hop became more pop this album came along with the original raw hip hop sound. Evidence and Racker the perfect MC combo With DJ Babu a proper hip hop turntable list all over some Alchemist classics.
The Roots - Things Fall Apart
This album was a totally new vibe for Hip Hop. The Roots had made some good previous albums but this one stands out so much. It really felt like a new wave of hip hop.
